Every year, over 3,000 people are diagnosed with the disease of bowel cancer. In Scotland, most largely spread is the lung cancer, after it is the breast cancer. All the men and women, between the age of 50 and 74 are invited every two years to the Scottish Bowel Screening Program. This service is now available and offered across Scotland. However, it will be accessible for all NHS boards, by the end of 2009.
The NHS offers also the so called “Shared Business Services”. Their success and importance in the public sector are recognized as fundamental, by the NAO (National Audit Office).
The leading role in driving efficiency in the public sector of the Department of Health’s work on the NHS Shared Business Service project is named by the Improving Corporate Services Using Shared Services NAO report.
The analysis of NAO predicts £250 million savings over 11 years. Already nearly 25% of the NHS organizations are delivered by the NHS Shared Business Services.
There are many advantages and gains, when there is better adherence of the processes of procurement , the financial control is improved, and the access to management information is easier. This is outlined in the report, despite some early challenges.
The managing director of the NHS Shared Business Services is Jim Vincent. He said that the benefits over and above the pure financial savings are recognized by the National Audit Office. He said also, that the faster and paperless transaction handling, the improved management information, as also the step change in the robustness of processes, bring many benefits to the clients of NHS.
